I¹m in the process of refurbishing my drive shafts and CV joints on my Œ86 (2.1 standard) Westy. I have new boots and the proper type and quantity of grease, however, the PO/previous mechanic had rounded out the heads of the socket head screws holding the CV joints in place. I got them out, but now to replace them.

They are 8mm x 48mm grade 10.9 socket head screws. I have found a supply of 8mm x 50mm grade 12.9.

Question, will the higher grade be a problem and how important is the 48mm length?

Dave Arthur
