I have had to deal with brake slaves and master (and clutch cylinders too on other cars) over the past 40 years or so. Back in the 1970s, there was a crowd who bored out the cylinders and inserted a brass sleeve. This brought the specs back to new.

These days, the process is done with stainless steel. My experience here in Australia is that this has been cheaper than buying new cylinders (unless it is a Brazilian rear brake cylinder!!). The returned unit is like brand new, but the bore should never corrode. The only "down" side to this is that I have found that if some years later I have to buy a "rebuild kit" (boots, seals etc) it can be more expensive than buying a whole new unit!! Crazy.

On the other hand, if I can find someone who has the individual boots, seals etc,and I can identify what they are, the cost is only a few dollars.

FWIW
