And in California, armrests for the driver are illegal due to that potential danger. I (B) understand why, because if I'm driving the twisy roads which require lots of arm movement then I flip 'em up because I find them to be in the way.

But on the flatter stretches, I do use 'em. I have a problem with lack of upper-body strength, and if I don't use 'em for the flatter stretches of driving, then my shoulders go numb after about 15 minutes. Using the arm rests, I can relax one arm at a time, as I need to.

If I needed to get out of my seat in a hurry, I expect I'd find my seatbelt more a hindrance than the armrest!
