I know that particular van personally........
though I think much work was done on it since I last saw it.

He does have 80 grand invested in that thing ...........maybe he just didn't
want to deal with, or need, the AC that badly.
If I was selling it..........and it was just a matter of 500 bucks or so to
get the AC hoses connected and system charged up with 134a .......
I'd do that to make the sale of course.
It started out at a lot higher asking price than this 40K too.
hey, I'll bet he'll take 500 to a thou off the price due to the AC not
working.
go for it !
Then find a Westy or Adventurewagon top, bring me the van, and I'll put the
top on for you......
then it'll be a  $ 60K SVX Syncro Vanagon with a useful and exotic top,
'specially if we do an AW top - much better aerodynamics at speed.

Don't know why, but every super-duper subaru conversion Vanagon has a
non-working A.C.
Take the $40,000 one on the Samba:

For $40,000 bucks, that thing should be spittin' ice cubes!

The next one up the list for $21700: "A.C. not connected". Sheesh!

Maybe you don't need it in your climate, but I won't show you the money for
an unfinished job.
