We have both the headlight lenses available and also the headlight
protectors which I encourage all square headlight Vanagon owners to
purchase. Mine do not stick to the glass. They are made of clear Lexan
and just snap into the grille leaving a gap between themselves and the
lens. So if a rock or a bird hits it you not only have the protection
of a Lexan shield but also a cushion of distance before you actually get
to the glass itself. I have had a set of these on my Vanagon for the
past four years. They haven't discolored at all and I have never had
any headlight damage even though we live near several sand mining
operations and sand trucks are either in front of us or passing us
coming the other direction on a daily basis (got a rock to the
windshield that way once). They are $59 for a set and the part number
in my webstore is AS2117* where you can see a picture of them installed.
As far as fixing stone hits goes, I know here in NJ that this type of
repair will not pass inspection. If they see a hole in the lens they
will fail the vehicle (they love to do that).
Hope this helps,
Ken Wilford
