My '87 came without power steering and the larger 18" steering wheel. It was option on non-GL trim level Vanagons thru-out production.

Hi Loren,

First off, I would have someone knowledgeable verify that the vehicle  
actually lacks power steering. I've never seen a post-85 without it....

Perhaps it's an 85 bought new in 1987???
