regarding paint shops and quality of work. Really good paint work ..............is a RARE, RARE thing...... I can count on one hand all the car or vanagon paint jobs I've ever seen that were actually good. Most paint and body work is very poorly done, regardless of how much one pays.

That's not to say people haven't gotten good paint jobs on vanagons sometimes,

I personally much prefer 'original with minor flaws' over re-painted. the perception is that 'new paint job' is a good thing is not a well-placed notion in my opinion. Most paint work is pretty lame frankly. Actually , lots of car work of any type is very poorly done. It's a crime even. I've even told a car painter guy on a BMW Coupe I had, I wasn't that worried about how much it cost, just how well done it was. And I paid 3 grand, and I had to take it right back to fix lots of lame parts of the job. Wish it wasn't that way ..............but pretty much I'd say don't expect paint work to be done really well, casuse usually it's not. I know of exactly TWO paint guys that do perfect work. All the rest..........overspray on the exhasut system parts, overspray though vent grills, paint on the spare tire............you name it .......
