Allan, One thing you will need to to do the job is tapping handle that will accept 1/2" taps. I could not find one in my city so I bought one of those "Gator Grip" universal sockets and a 3/8" "T" handle to fit the Gator Grip socket. It worked pretty well. I also used red loctite just to make sure the time-sert threads were sealed and for extra safety. Pascal '84Westy

Asked at the two "best" local parts stores (NAPA and CarQuest), and neither one had 14 x 1.5 heli-coils. So, I ordered the time-sert rental, for $25 I think it's a good deal, cheaper than a heli-coil kit and MUCH cheaper than a time-sert kit. Also sounds like the "best" repair.

I appreciate the recommendations from several folks to just use the oversize self-tapping plug, that is definitely a quick and cheap solution but that still leaves you with the relatively weak threads directly in the aluminum case.
