I have not personally inspected anuy of these helpful devices, but I
think if the struts are putting constant upward and outward pressure
on the top even when it is latched it will cause the top to bow over
time where the outside edges will begin to lift. I would think the
struts should be mounted in such a way as to exert zero pressure near
and at closed top position.
