Subject: Re: Secret $15 steel wheel source

That's what I replied earlier today...but apparently Gerry ate the message, I don't see that it posted. The wheels are in fact 37mm offset, 7" wide, large lug holes w/ball seat, 67mm center bore. Not nearly as heavy as factory Syncro-16" wheels but should be fine. Be careful with the stock lugnuts: I've seen some aftermarket nuts where the seat does not roll all the way around to the threads of the nut. These sometimes barely seat in the recess as required and may cause a wheel to pop loose. So use OEM nuts or check what you are using for fit in these wheels before driving. Oh, and torque! 133 ft-lbs.

My additional views regarding tires: I use and recommend only tires with the minimum load rating AND at least 2-ply sidewalls AND LT-C/D/E rating or XL/RF rating. 'P', or passenger car tires don't cut it, unless they have the 2-ply sidewall AND XL or RF. Passenger cars have different handling characteristics; Vanagons enjoy much more weight transfer than normal vehicles, especially Westies and Syncros.
