Yes, it is. This topic has a huge resource of knowledge and actual experience reported on the subaruvanagon list because we that have made that engine switch, keep trying to figure out what percentage increase in tire size (read: gearing change) will still allow benefits of increased engine conversion power. 7% increase is the max that has been "decided" by substituting the 2.2 Subie for the Wasserleaker.
