I think the easiest solution is to simply not leave the side of the van while the gas is filling. You shouldn't anyway, especially since the auto cut off on pump handles can fail, then you are spewing expensive gasoline all over the van and the ground. I saw this happen in the '70's to guy filling up a '77 Corvette-which had the fuel filler in the "trunk" area-the gas started shooting up in the air like a fountain. The Vanagon tank is so small it doesn't take that long to fill up anyway. Jeff

Have you ever driven away from a fuel stop with the fill line stuck in your fill tube? You hear this noise.. and then you find out that was an expensive pit stop... Happened to me twice so far... been paranoid ever since...
