There is very little that can go wrong with a coolant level probe. I am always mystified when someone reports that replacing it solved their problem. It's just two metal prongs poking down to touch the coolant. If the prongs are somehow covered with an insulating coating, cleaning them should do the trick. If the prongs are not electrically connected to the exterior plug/socket any more, it should be easy to check with an ohmmeter, but this seems unlikely.
