It sounds like VW made several color changes to those wires. My '86 had two white wires. As I had explained in an earlier post in this thread, I had to cut the harness open several inches back to find good

wire to splice new wire to.

I looked at Bentley and while 86/87 are white (which mine were), '88 shows R/W & W/Y wires (page 97.125). 1990 shows the same as '88 (I didn't look at other years) on page 97.207. This being said, I'm not sure what brown wire Mike is referring to. Of course I'm very new to Bentley so am I reading it wrong?
