"can't repair"???? How about looking in the phone book for a battery shop? They sell and maintain batteries for industry or even vanagon owners. I'm sure they can repair it or tell you how. Do you think they throw away a $2,000 fork lift battery pack just because it has a tiny hole drilled in it?? Ask an expert. Related topic: when I picked up my Vanagon starter from my local starter/alternator shop, guy told me the OPTIMA batteries were scarce because of military use right now...
