UPS dropped off my new tires (Falken Ziex ZE-912 215/60R16 99H) earlier than they usually deliver, so I had some time today to get them mounted. They fit the 16" TireRack on-sale rims just great, with about 1/2" of clearance from the suspension. No need for spacers. Ride and track well. I got 4 tires for <$300, including shipping, from vulcantire.com. There was a place on the west coast which was cheaper for the tires (onlinetires.com), but shipping made them more expensive for me.

I added some pictures to http://www.flatsurface.com/vanagon/16wheels.html They show the clearance (the suspension was loaded when I took these).
