Hi, thanks, so you are saying the rims don't matter as far as the 185 195 or
205 number. And even though I have 205's now on these alloy rims I can use
185's. is that correct? dj

185/R14 are OEM and what I run on my 84 Westy... this is the same as a
185/80-14
If you use the Miata tire size chart, you will see the effects of changing
tire size.
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
If you were to go with the 195/75/14 you would hardly see any difference.
The Circumference is actually 80.2 in vs. 80.6 in on the 185/R14.
The Diameter is 25.5 in vs. 25.7 in on the 185/R14
Speedometer reading with non-stock tire is 0.5% too fast...
So... when your speedo reads 60 mph, you are actually traveling 59.7 mph.
I would suggest that you stick with the 185/R14
The 205/70/14's have a circumference of 79.5 inch, and the side wall is .2
inch smaller than the 185's
Your speedo with the 205's will read 1.4% too fast.
If you go with 205/75/14's the circumference is 82.0 in, and the sidewall is
taller at 6.1 inch (which can result is a little more play).
I don't see any advantage with going with a different tire, it is very
important to have the reinforced "C" or "D" rating, for the stiffer side
wall, which is critical for cross wind handling.

Is this the one you mean?

Should I use the 195 on the alloy rims? They have 205's now but don't see
205's offered

The perfect tire for this predicament is the Yokohama 356 Super van that
you can get from the www.tirerack.com for low money. They are a load
range C tire and I really like them ( I run them on my vans). Tirerack
always has them in stock so they are quick and easy to get. Just line
up a local shop that is willing to install them. You should be able to
find this tire listed under Vanagon on their site.
Hope this helps,
