Maybe beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I have used 185R14's with my alloys for years, as do hundreds of my customers, and I can't say I've ever heard a comment that the combination looked funny. In fact the difference isn't even particularly noticeable if you're not looking for it, in my opinion. As per factory specs a 185R14 is suitable for rim widths between 5" and 6", which includes both the steel wheels (5.5") and the alloys (6"). The 205/70R14 is about 2/5 of an inch wider, and roughly the same height, as the 185R14. So it's not a huge difference.
