Wow, only 24 hours to decide on whether to buy an Adventurewagen or not. Hopefully Joe F. will chime in here as he is moderator of the AW list. These are very unique and very well built camper conversions. They are very high quality and most owners of them will insist they are of higher quality than the Westfalia. First you need to ask yourself if that's the right camper for you. It has high top that has its advantages and disadvantages. The major advantage is that there is plenty more storage for goodies and you don't have to pop the top when you arrive at your destination. Did you like the layout? How do you like it compared to the Westfalia? If you like AW then this could be a pretty good deal.

Without knowing the mechanical condition I don't think that anyone can tell you a price to pay for the van so you should determine how much it is worth to YOU. Worse case scenario you'll need to redo all brakes (which don't like to sit for years), new tires, new fuel lines, new battery (a given) and the engine may not have liked sitting for a long time and may need allot of work or a replacement though that's worse case.

Having a perfect body and interior is priceless though. You can always add and remove engines and transmissions but to have a rust free AW is not something people stumble upon every day.

If you can get it for a few thousand than take it! As for the real value I hope the other AW members can chime in.

If you are interested, I have a ton of VW camper books and can scan and email you a few pages of AW write-ups if you are interested. They are really just historical though, nothing about values.

I have just looked at an 84 adventure wagon. It has 39,000 miles and body is perfect, no rust no dents except 2 small dents. Paint is 2 tone faded but with wax should be great. it looks like it has been sitting a long time. It is part of an estate sale. Battery is dead and the sale person wouldn't let me jump it. She did let me hook up a charger and I can come back tomorrow. my question is what is the value of the adventure wagons, I see the layout of this one is very different than the standard westfalias I have seen. What is the history on these and what are they worth. I like tha hard top with all the windows and big skylight. What should I be looking at before buying? dj
