Thanks, what you say makes sense about using the correct tire size, anyway someone came today and paid full price less $500 for the tire. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=716061 So I will save this info for the next one I buy. I am looking for a full camper now to replace the weekender. dj

if you look right inside the driver's door you will see what the true correct tire for this van is. Being a 90 Weekender..........I believe it's 205/70 R 14.....'reinforced' probably, which is seldom found anywhere I think.

sure, you can use 185 R 14's ...........but for people who know what that year van should really look like, how it should sit on it's wheels.... it won't look right. on my similar 87 Wolfsburg someone put on 205/70 R 14 H rated...... those are sort of close to the orginal tire. often there is an original tire for a spare ...........too old to be safe to

use after all these years...........but I commonly find original tires where

the spare is. The clamshelll that the spare fits on is of the size to accomodate the 205/70 R 14 too..........I beleive you will find.

I suggested 195 R 14 C .........that's not a bad size. I do not recommend D rated tires - too stiff in my opinion. 'C's are perfect. If you put some really correct tires on it.........that will help sell it.

speedometer accuracy ...............'that varies' let's say that, and not just by tire size. Like from van to van, year to year, etc. Smaller tire makes the speedo read higher of course. Larger makes it read lower.
