Being a Deadhead, I always wanted a VW bus. The sense of community, showed in the people that toured in the VW vans and busses even more so than simply the fans.

My dream came true...but just before Jerry died. Anyway, my wife had FMS and needed to lie down while traveling so we looked into the VW's and found a vanagon in 1995 (Mz Magic, 1991 dark blue camper). The original owner needed something bigger (3 adults, 2 kids, 1 dog) so we lucked out. I found the list just before I bought it and checked out the people. I found a local mechanic to check it out as well as the key potential problems...CV joints, heads, gas line, engine fire, etc... A little scary but the van checked out. Had it ever since and the list has been very helpful since then. It was interesting but since I joined the list w/out a van I wasn't really included in Unca Joel's stats. The day I could send my info to Unca Joel to be included was thrilling. I have also been in the Limbo book and have both helped (gave a stuck listmember a ride) and been helped (local mechanic) while on the road. I also really enjoyed sending my trip reports in (and our discussions on the vw "wave"). The list helped me figure out how to use the a/c and heat switches, how the radiator fans worked and how to replace the armrests (amongst other more mechanical issues).

The list is a real gem. Thank you...for a real good time.
