I think I'll have plenty of cubic feet for the wood I'll be burning
and storing for the winter of 2009/10 so I can work on my Vanagon in
toasty comfort 12 months out of the year. When I have a choice, I
cut the wood in 18" lengths due to the firebox door restrictions and
should be able to stack it 3 rows deep. I'm tempted to have the gap
from the sliding door face away from the shop for walk-in
access. Probably won't build the support poles high enough so the
roof looks to be the same height as a stock
Vanagon, but with no fender wells and flooring to deal with, there
should be 300' cubic feet of storage in there.
As far as cutting the roof off, if it's in the 200# range, I think I
could suspend the roof with ropes and cam straps from the roof joists
to take a little pressure off the saw blade as the cutting
progresses. The cladding underneath may get hinged for ventilation
as will the window openings. Will have to do something to make it
all look really sano. NO blue tarps or burlap if I can help it. I'm
open for ideas from the carpenter heads on the list too, even if we
take it private mail(self-policing here).
