Subject: Opera or not? (Re: Howto: make your own searchable vanagon
              archives)

I just wanted to clarify something for people who are importing the mbox file into a mail client other than opera: the reason I chose opera as the recommended client is that it implements an indexed search. What's important is that this means it can search the entire archives in seconds. Most other email clients have a search function which doesn't use an "index", so searching in these clients will take a long time (assuming you are trying to actually search the text of the message bodies and not just the subject). You can get around this by using something like google desktop (or whatever there is for macs, I'm sure there's something). If you are having trouble getting fast searching to work some other way, putting the mail in opera will "definitely work" for this purpose (in any operating system).
