This observation is relevant to the discussion only if the amount of bandwidth consumed by NVC or Moderation posts is the only negative effect of the posts in question. Clearly, this is not so.

IMHO, the primary issue at hand is whether or not the type and quantity of NVC posts will cause members to abandon the list in frustration, thus leaving the pool of people who are here for ON-TOPIC discussion a decreasing percentage of the total. Over time, the Vanagon content will decline to the point of uselessness.

I've been here almost ten years. I could never have maintained and enjoyed my Vanagons without the information and assistance provided by a small group of members with extensive knowledge of Vanagon systems. I've had my fill of religion, politics, environmental activism, race relations, etc.

The Vanagon list NEEDS moderation, and discussion of the same, because of the individuals that just can't understand that these gasoline-on-a-campfire topics serve only to drive away dedicated members who simply don't want to hear the off-topic opinions of the in-your-face, vocal few who lack the discipline to keep it to themselves.
