Subject: Vanagon Roof Weight?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed

Here's a not so trivial question that I'd like an educated guess/answer to.

Does anyone on the list know approximately how much a Vanagon roof(non Westy/non sunroof) would weigh if the roof were cut off at the imaginary line right about at the door lock button level? This would be with doors/hatch/headliner/etc removed. My wife has given me pretty much permission to go ahead and cut the roof off this Syncro and use it as a shelter for our firewood if I can make it look fairly sanitary(don't G.A.S. what the neighbors think). All the glass is gone, so I'll need to improvise there. I have a perfect spot for it on the north side of the shop and I need to figure out just how tall to make the storage facility. I could build a shade tree foundation and support it with your basic post hole dug posts and concrete filled bell holes and then panel the sides as funding and cosmetics allow.. Still deciding if I would use the rear hatch access for adding and removing the wood supply or whether I'd use the sliding door area for that. The added plus would be that I could mount some Quick and Easy brand roof rack brackets and wood bars and get the canoes and kayaks off the back porch and my wife is WAY into that idea.

Thanks

DM&FS
