Just bend that end pin out of the way like you were going to. You are right that various people have called it a ground pin and it absolutely is not.

What it is really is the rpm pulses pin. The oil buzzer board looks at the low switch until it sees the engine rpms at around 2000 or higher and then it looks at the high switch.

Bending the pin makes it never look at the high switch since it never sees the engine speed.
