Well, I pulled the whole latch mechanism, and, without understanding a whole lot about it, cleaned and lubed it and then replaced it. No change. While it was out I made sure that the levers and everything attached to the door worked OK, and they did. I guess something have become work in the latch mechanism, and upsetting it the least bit locked it up. Since it's already sub-freezing and the sun is about to go down, I went ahead and put it back together so I could drive it. Where I live locking it is no big deal (I never do) but I'm about to start traveling in it again. Guess I need to look into picking up a used latch.
