I must say, I really like what John Rogers is saying here........ that there is good reason and purpose to have other than strictly vanagon content discussed......... keeping with a community theme, a family as it were. And the great usefulness of things beyond strictly vanagon tech.

Re 'not being able' to keep vanagons going .......balderdash. There are plenty of 40 year old air-cooled buses alive and well....... No reason 'at al' that vanagons, being very well built vehicles, can not be kept alive indefinitely..........as long as we can get gas and diesel fuel, and drive on roads......... there is no end in sight for the joy and utility of vanagons. - as long as they're not too badly rusted or crashed............just no end in sight AT ALL.

Even 15 years ago one might have wondered about the viability of vanagons ...............and they are at least as viable as they ever were, if not more. I'm restoring and upgrading about 8 of them..( FS of course ) ..........plus have a decent stash of parts and parts vans.
