Agreed but all we have to do is collectively ignore them and they will die a quick death.

I think there was ONE post actually soliciting donations. There was a lot of shouting about it. Then this endless thread on moderating the list.

If we ALL just ignore the off-topic stuff, it will pop up from time to time and, getting no responses, the authors will get bored and go elsewhere.
