On my '85, I removed the luggage rack and cut a hole in it, using a hole saw then reinstalled it. Now the base of a magnetic mount antenna will clear the hole and fix itself to the metal roof under the rack.

I also have a through the glass antenna which I use when the luggage rack is used for a luggage rack.
