I feel a little sheepish, but did not realize that K&N filters used oil in the filter element. I know that oil fouling the MAF is already a potential issue with the stock Jetta 2.0 so wouldn't want to possibly exacerbate that.

I know of two other VanaJetta guys who are using Honda (Model?) air filter boxes. To my eye, they use larger elements (hard to tell from these pics)

than the Caravan V6 box.

Actually I was quite surprised to see just how small the Caravan box looked compared to the Jetta box.

I removed the silencer when I installed the box so the flow may be "ok".

I have to "Air Care" (emissions testing) my VanaJetta soon (crosses fingers.....). Hopefully the Caravan air filter/box won't create trouble in that regard.
