Neil, that is the wrong V6 Caravan box! The one we diesel Vanagon guys mostly use is the larger type found only on 3.0 models. We take that and reverse the lid so the hoses are on opposite ends and hook easily to the snorkel when fitted on the driver's side behind the tail light. The one you show is the small 3.3 filter box which some people use on the passenger side when they have an intercooler on the driver's side.

The 3.0 was used in something like 88-94 Caravan models with some overlap with later 3.3 years.
