I'd be surprised if a lantern was any kind of deterrent to a bear. really surprised.........I've hard about 5 people screaming and banging pots at a California bear, and the bear did not care at all. They are 'supposed; to be hibernating now............but anything is possible of course. see any bear sign around ??? scat , tree marks, fur bits, etc. if not.......I would lean toward not being worried too much. I wouldn't sleep with hamburgers inside my sleeping bag though ! in case anyone does not know the 'food rules' in real bear country. You sleep like 400 feet from where you cook. You do not sleep in the clothes you cook or ate in. And all food........every last food-like thing......tooth paste, lip stuff............make-up .......whatever.........plus all food......that goes in your bear proof food locker, your bear proof food can, or high up between trees where bears can't get at it. I'll bet you're high all right !! Scott
