I think you're overstating the significance of the Westy in the show, but it was a treat to see it.  There are two brief interior glimpses and two brief exterior shots with voiceover.  The first is of the driver in right profile and you think, "Is he driving a Vanagon?" It's the part where the guy is at the Texas/Mexico border awaiting the arrival of the migration from the north, about 40 minutes into the program.

Terrific program, Vanagon or not.
