Anyone have good suggestions on removing the monster nut on the "axle" hub? <Snip>. I need to R and R the brakes...

But, I suspect this is the best (only?) way, beside using the Muir approach. >>>

Jon,

You do not need to remove the axle nut to perform rear brake service. Remove the drum and they shoes should be easily accessible. The drums do often get stuck when a ridge forms inside the drum. Note that the rear hub, which is what is being held by the axle nut, should stay on. Stubborn, stuck brake drums can be pulled off with a autoby puller. Work the hook around the perimeter. Don't forget to remove the drum retaining bolts first.

Cheers,
