Good points Roger. I am not expert by far but it is my understanding that
Food or threat are usually the motivations behind bear attacks. The person
camping in bear territory should still be on their toes and cautious for
sure but keeping food and garbage locked away and not taking actions that
threaten the bear or their young a certain deterrents.

Again they are wild animals and will do as they please but everything I have
read is inline with what Roger was saying. We spent a few nights camping in
Northern MI a few years back. We knew there were bear in the area but were
sure to keep everything picked up and no food out. About the third day a
close by cabin dweller came to our site and said he has seen a few bear the
night before. He just wanted to let us know and caution us to keep things
tidy.

Still those pictures are pretty scary.
