If possible, and I know this sounds silly, but try to "sneak" some penetrating oil in at the holes where the small 11mm head bolts were

(you removed those right? :)

I managed to slip in a small screwdriver to lever the drum a hair away from the axle flange and squirt some oil in.

And you need to bang on the drum with a metal hammer.
