Since the concentration of Oxygen is air is normally 21 percent, 18 to 19 for shutoff seems reasonable. Remember that air is mostly Nitrogen gas. ;)

We've had a Mr. Heater (We call it the Mr. Happy, but that's a whole 'nother story). I would never sleep with it on, even though I trust it.

One night, we were in bed with the Mr. Happy on. We started smelling something buring. Discovered that the sleeping bag slid down and contact the front of the heater. (My bad for keeping so close to the bed) Left a 3-inch charred spot on the sleeping bad. So, BE CAREFUL!

With the tip-over sensor and low O2 shutoff, I consider Mr. Heater the safest in it's class. Of course, a Propex/Espar/Etc. is much safer, since they vent outside.

Keep in mind that the Coleman Cats that I've seen do not have low O2 shutoff.

My biggest problem with all the non-externally vented Propane heater is the moisture build-up.

One of these days I'm going to install a Propex...until then it's a Mr. Heater when no power is available.
