Check the voltage rectifier mounted to the back of your instrument cluster. It's the small, black, square component with three metal legs. (contacts) It uses a single mounting screw. Once you remove the mount screw you can/should be able to slide the rectifier out of its contacts though it should be a snug fit. Check that all three contacts are sound. May need replacing. Both gas and temp gauge circuits run through this component. If both are bad/intermittent, the rectifier is often the culprit. Kep '79 scirroco '86 country home '86 Audi powered syncro
