Yes, and the rest of your post indicates a lack of knowledge about what causes a heater to put out high levels of CO.

Fact is, the major reason for CO is incomplete combustion, caused by a lack of oxygen. As oxygen levels decrease, combustion produces higher levels of CO. Hence, the oxygen sensor/shutoff _does_ have a direct relation to CO.

ANSI Z21.63 (2000) specifies that when an infrared radiant heater is operated in a 100 ft^3 room (a Vanagon is closer to 200 cubic feet, even more on a Westy with the top up) at air exchange rates of 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 air changes per hour, the CO concentration in the room cannot exceed 100 ppm. In addition, Z21.63 specifies that the O2 concentration in the room cannot be depleted below 16 percent at any time.
