Dear Matthew

Indianapolis ... two years ago ... the parking lot across form the red eye cafe 250 south meridian street -- cold night indeed ... we were both hungry and had been driving all day -- i backed into the paid parking lot space as directed by the guy in the booth

as i parked a fellow with no gloves approached us ... he told us he was parking lot "security" and for a small fee of spare change he would ensure the safety of our van i smiled at him-- we cant recall how much we gave him ... but as my wife fished it out i went to the back of the van and retrieved a new pair of cotton gloves i keep dozens of them in the van for working in the cold etc...

i gave them to him ... he smiled a gracious thanks then at the gate to the lot we met yet more of the security detail -- he had a can to hold offerings to him -- he also had gloves on already

we were in the cafe for some time -- internet - -- late night supper and all that when we came out we were greeted by the fellow wearing the white cotton gloves ... and his smile of gratitude --- indeed it was simply a reflection of our own smile of gratitude .. i have imagined him standing watch over our van (mostly cause i have a very active imagination)

as for lost instruments ... all i can offer is the link to the story i wrote last year about a local guitar builder http://www.prliving.ca/issue0807.html#wood

i hope you never have to suffer through the loss of another instrument Matthew I know several friends who have lost theirs on planes and through other acts of theft ... very sad indeed ... yours
