I have the autozone lifetime warranty alternator and i must say, i am happy with it. The peace of mind of being able to get a free replacement is nice. You do however, take a serious loss in quality in my mind. I am on my 3rd one. I went through the first two in a week, only the third one fully worked. I believe you have to work at it to get one that works, then it will work within the expected lifetime of the product (with free replacement after that). You can buy a quality rebuild, or you can buy crap with a warranty. I've been told these aren't rebuilt at all and just get a new regulator, brushes, and paint job.... but that is all hearsay. Meanwhile, I can live with crap and a warranty! -Craig '85GL turned WESTY On Sun, Feb 8, 2009 at 4:09 PM, Robert Stewart <robertmstewart@mac.com>wrote: > Autozone carries an alternator that is compatible for use with the > late model Vanagon which has lifetime warranty on it! > > Any issues with it they replace it on the spot. > > I have never purchased one from them but since they are all over the > country it might be a good option especially while traveling. > > Robert > NY > > > On Feb 7, 2009, at 1:47 PM, azsun99 wrote: > > In light of Loren's experience, what is the approximate life span of >> a late model >> alternator, it's brushes and regulator, assuming the belt is >> properly tensioned and >> the van doesn't see a lot of time on dusty roads or in other adverse >> conditions? >> >> Jerry >> > |
