Non-fire, non-intentional CO deaths associated with consumer products in temporary shelters in 2005. Temporary shelters include tents, RV, cube vans, seasonal cabins, trailers (including horse trailers). Consumer products do not include factory-installed generators in RVs. Total -- 31 (2003-2005 average 25, 15% of total CO deaths) Portable LP heaters -- 10 Generators -- 12 Charcoal -- 2 LP lanterns -- 3 Gas stove -- 1 Gas fridge -- 1 unknown space heater -- 1 Additional 11 fatalities in passenger vans, trucks, autos being used overnight; caused by heaters, generators, lanterns or multiple products. Statistically, the scary trend appears to be generators (see the report). -- David Beierl - Providence RI USA -- http://pws.prserv.net/synergy/Vanagon/ '84 Westy "Dutiful Passage," '85 GL "Poor Relation" |
