"This is what I am always afraid of when I'm tempted to "outsmart" the professional automotive engineers who designed the stock system.

I don't know what "too hot" is where oil is concerned, but 220 F under heavy load does not sound very hot to me."

When I had the TIICO in my van I put a SETRAB w/fan oil cooler in the right D pillar base and it dropped the temps 20-30 degrees. When I had the Subie 2.2 put in I was going to keep that in place and plumb it into the conversion. I was advised it wasn't necessary and so left if out of the loop. I now get oil temps up to 300 degrees and have been advised that this is not a problem, that these kinds of oil temps have been in motors going back into the 50's and 60's on various auto engines of that time, and this information came to me form an ex-aircraft engine mechanic and Van-nut. So, I'm going to keep running Synthetic oils and tolerate this periodically-high (summer, on mountain climbs) oil temp and continue the great experiment.
