Many good theories - thank you.

I have written an email to Volkswagen in Germany - lets see if they reply...............

And yes - I forgot to say - I respect and love the WBX - absolutely a strong engine, and VW probably never designed it for a +20 years lifespan :-) - so that talks for itself that we still keep em running.

But after I got myself an I4 conversion - I realize that life can be a lot easier than driving a WBX and fearing the dreaded gasket leaking. (Although it is quite an easy job to change the gaskets - even with the engine in the car)
