you might be correct about the 1,6TD. Maybe they were never used in the military. But the 1,7D was sold quite often in standard Vanagons. Many of them are driven by german forum members.

Most forum members own either a military van, or a "Deutsche Bundespost" van (the Vanagon used by our mail company). But this engine was also used in other low-spec Vanagons. For example craftsman like carpenters, brick layers (it this a real translation?) etc

Regards Raimund sorry for maybe uncorrect translation. I never had to talk about carpenters, yet ;-)
