I did that with my old '73 220D about twenty years ago. I installed Vanagon steel rims and chrome hubcaps and replaced the MB star on the hood and trunk with Wolfsburg crests from early Beetles. A Beetle horn button fit perfectly in the steering wheel. And then just to confuse all the more, I added trunk script from an early Squareback, so it said Volkswagen on the left and Variant on the right. I used to love parking it downtown while I sat in the coffee shop watching folks stop and scratch their heads.
