the assembly paste is silicone grease.  i have a can of it made by 3M.
using brake fluid is fine if you are going to use the rebuild right away.
if you are rebuilding it and placing it on the shelf for future use you
need to use the paste/grease.  this is because brake fluid is designed to
absorb moisture from the atmosphere.  if you use it for lubrication and
then it sits on the shelf it will start absorbing atmospheric moisture and
begin to rust over longer time periods.
