Please excuse my longwinded post, some of this is just me venting the pure rage that this has caused. So, yesterday I get up and leave for work, looking my van over quickly as I got in my truck. I didnt see anything amiss. Later that afternoon, my roommate calls me and says someone broke into the van. So I leave work, cussing and screaming all the way home. I find that in fact, someone has ignored the unlocked side door and smashed in my passenger's side front window. I tried to contain myself and focused on filing a police report, cleaning up broken glass, and trying to locate a replacement. It is only now, a whole day later, that I have gotten really angry with all this. It makes me angry because they didnt even steal anything, not the $30 box of CR132 batteries for my surefire flashlight, not the maglight from under my driver's seat, not even a single tool from the toolbox. They just smashed in my window, rifled through the glove box, and split. It left my van with a broken window the day before a snow storm, and now only a plastic bag keeps rain and snow from getting in there. The police said they aren't going to catch the guy that did it, though it is my opinion that they arent making much of an effort. They didnt even come and see what he did, they didnt dust for prints, and generally it is like they dont care at all. Makes me feel great about paying taxes. Ok, enough venting. I've got a window on order from VW, $80 not so bad. How hard is it to put it in myself? Any tips on doing this? Any tips on getting the busted glass out of the seat track without removing the seat? There is also glass up in the dash, and generally all over the place. I guess my investment in a 5hp shop vac will pay off... Jeff 90GL less a window |
