my apologies.........
I'm 'so practical' ................not to mention a little aspergery ......
so my mind is immediately thinking of what the problem with van might be,
what part has to get from Where the part is ............
at a junkyard, at a FLAPS, on my shelf etc.............to where the van is.
The 'what' is fundamentally tied to the 'where' ............that's so
obvious it's silly. ..........to me for sure.
not to go on .......
I know people ALL over the place...............I might know some parts store
owner, or vanagon parts person or WHATever in some little town, or in some
Big City .......
So I might say ............'get ahold of Joe down at XYZ, he's your
man.'............IF I know where.
I find that the Value of 'where' is lost on so many people
apparently........
now we know it's northern california.
that's a big area.
I often have to ask people where they are...........they say the state, then
I have to ask what part of the state.......
like it takes 3 questions to find out it's Sacramento, or Eureka, Ca......or
wherever it is.
I ask this because I've been doing cars, VW's , and vanagons well over 40
years, I have contacts all over the place.....and if I find out a real
location........I might be able to help the person.
speaking of trips from Ca to Oregon.......I am located just minutes off
Interstate 5 at exit 24.........that's 24 miles from the top of california.
I am sitting on a huge haord of vanagon parts .....and parts vans, and
project vans.
Frequently vanagon travelers have issues on their trip, and find there way
here to deal with a tech issue.............or make arragnements to stop by
for parts or repairs.
I mention this so the poster knows he has a conveniently located, very, very
vanagon-savvy place if he needs some vanagon part or diagnosis or repair. .
As for 'why give location if I'm broke' ..............
Let's try thinking in terms of Possibility .........
Some vanagon community member could be very near to the poster with the
problem, and gladly offer to ship for free, some extra part he has.
Such a person would be more likely to do that on the same coast, or in the
same state..........
see..................L o c a t i o n M a t t e r s .
i.e...........rather than plan for 'just broken down and I'm broke and
that's it' ..........how about planning for someone out there might have
exactly what's needed.
no kidding jeez...............I wouldn't think it would be neccessary to
explain the fundmental value of 'l o c a t i o n ' but apparently it is.
Or has the computer, tex messaging, and a far lower quaility of education in
the last coulple of decades made people somewhat illiterate
?................
I think it has, at least some of the time.
re the van .........
and 'timing' ...........the timing doesn't get off usually
...........basically never if things are tightened down properly ......
and.........there are many great vanagon community members here just dyin'
to help ya guy !~
and we would love to help ya get to the bottom of why she quit........
and keep ya on the road.
and yes........I see people offering parts for free on here now and then for
sure.
Not to mention free diangositc help.

post......make everyone drag it out of them. More interaction that way.
Fills up the bandwidth of the group..........lotta good reasons to not
